Search engine optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or a web page from search engines. SEO targets unpaid search traffic (usually referred to as "organic" results) rather than direct traffic, referral traffic, social media traffic, or paid traffic.

How Search Engine Optimization Works:

  • Website Structure: Title tags, meta-descriptions, alt tags for photos, robot.txt, etc.
  • On-Site Content Strategy: Integrate top keywords into your content. Update content regularly (Blogs are a great way to add relevant content frequently!)
  • Off-Site Presence: Start with claiming and optimizing your Google Business Page. Add other directories as you go. Create backlinks from reputable companies (i.e., the Chamber of Commerce)

Search engine Marketing (SEM)

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) broadcasts your business in search results based on the words and phrases that people search in Google. SEM is highly measurable, comparable, and actionable because of the amount of performance data captured during campaigns.

How Search Engine Marketing Works:

  • Highly Measurable: Extensive and actionable campaign data is available to measure success during and post-campaign.
  • Ready-to-Purchase: People searching for something they need are often ready to make a purchase decision.
  •  Scalable Targeting: Ability to broadly or micro-target people based on geotargeting, times of day, etc.
